Walter was born under the official name Koenig, Walter Marvin on September 14th, 1936. He has been a credited actor since the 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Walter is a recognizable supporting cast member who's acting range makes him the top choice for a variety of roles. He has appeared in eight films including: the 2008 sci-fi film InAlienable as the character Dr. Shilling, the 1994 action movie Star Trek: Generations playing Chekov and the 1991 action release Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country cast as Chekov.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 1982 action film Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, which brought in $79,000,000 at the box office.

In 2008 Walter Koenig produced his first movie, the sci-fi film InAlienable.

Walter is a fan favorite, having been featured on the cover of at least two magazines, captured in more than one pictorials, interviewed in over fifteen publications and featured in five magazine articles. He has been the subject of at least one book.
