The film stars Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felson, Tom Cruise as Vincent Lauria and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Carmen. The Color of Money was produced for $14,000,000. Since it's release it has grossed over $14,000,000 in ticket sales and $24,000,000 in rental and home sales.

The Color of Money was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences in two categories. It was an Oscar nominee for art direction and writing (screenplay based on material from another medium).
