Sydney was born under the official name Pollack, Sydney Irwin on July 1st, 1934. He died on May 26th, 2008 in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California, USA (stomach cancer). He has been a credited actor since the 1966 film This Property Is Condemned.

Sydney was a recognizable supporting cast member who's acting range makes him the top choice for a variety of roles. He has appeared in eight films including: the 2008 comedy film Made of Honor as the character Thomas Sr., the 2007 crime movie Michael Clayton playing Marty Bach and the 2002 drama release Changing Lanes cast as Stephen Delano.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 1993 drama film The Firm, which brought in $158,000,000 at the box office.

Sydney Pollack has directed on numerous occassions including: This Property Is Condemned (1966), Absence of Malice (1981) and Tootsie (1982). In 1981 Sydney Pollack produced his first movie, the drama film Absence of Malice. Since then he went on to produce twenty-five movies including: Tootsie (1982) and Out of Africa (1985) among others .

Sydney is a cultural icon, having been interviewed in over five publications and featured in twenty-nine magazine articles. He has been the subject of at least one book.He has been the subject of at least one biographical film.
