Stockard was born under the official name Stockard, Susan Williams Antonia on February 13th, 1944. She has been a credited actor since the 1978 film Grease.

To date, Stockard has only starred in the 1993 comedy movie Six Degrees of Separation. Stockard Channing has yet to establish a position as a bankable star.

Stockard has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. She has appeared in thirteen films including: the 2010 drama film Multiple Sarcasms as the character Pamela, the 2005 comedy movie Must Love Dogs playing Dolly and the 2003 comedy release Anything Else cast as Paula Chase.

Her most commercially successful project to date has been the 1996 comedy film The First Wives Club, which brought in $105,000,000 at the box office.
