Sam was born under the official name Rogers, Samuel Shepard on November 5th, 1943. Known to his close friends as Charlie, he has been a credited actor since the 1970 film Zabriskie Point.

To date, Sam has only starred in the 1983 adventure movie The Right Stuff. Sam Shepard has yet to establish a position as a bankable star.

Sam has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in twenty-one films including: the 2015 thriller film You Were Never Here as the character Paul Stark, the 2013 drama movie Savannah playing Mr. Stubbs and the 2013 crime release Out of the Furnace cast as Gerald 'Red' Baze.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 2012 action film Safe House, which brought in $126,000,000 at the box office.

Beyond acting, Sam Shepard was the director of the 1993 movie drama Silent Tongue.

Sam has garnered moderate media attention, having been featured on the cover of at least two magazines, captured in more than one pictorials, interviewed in over two publications and featured in six magazine articles. He has been the subject of at least two biographical films.

As an actor Sam Shepard has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences on one occasion. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his role as Chuck Yeager in the 1983 movie The Right Stuff.
