Robert was born under the official name Mitchum, Robert Charles Durman on August 6th, 1917. He died on July 1st, 1997 in Santa Barbara, California, USA (lung cancer and emphysema). Known to his close friends as Mitch, he has been a credited actor since the 1955 film Not as a Stranger.

Robert Mitchum was a dependable leading actor. He has starred in four films including the 1995 comedy film Pakten as the character Ernest Bogan, the 1972 western movie The Wrath of God playing Father Oliver Van Horne and the 1970 drama release Ryan's Daughter cast as Charles Shaughnessy.
