Lee was born under the official name Rosenthal, Lyova Haskell on October 31st, 1925. She has been a credited actor since the 1967 film Valley of the Dolls.

Lee is a recognizable supporting cast member who's acting range makes her the top choice for a variety of roles. She has appeared in eight films including: the 2001 drama film Mulholland Dr. as the character Louise Bonner, the 2000 comedy movie Dr. T and the Women playing Dr. Harper and the 1979 drama release When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder? cast as Clarisse Ethridge.

Her most commercially successful project to date has been the 1967 drama film Valley of the Dolls, which brought in $44,000,000 at the box office.

Beyond acting, Lee Grant was the director of the 1980 movie drama Tell Me a Riddle.

Lee has stayed out of the media limelight, having been , captured in more than three pictorials, interviewed in over one publications and featured in one magazine article. She has been the subject of at least one book.

As an actor Lee Grant has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences on three occasions. Her first Oscar was for Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her portrayal of Felicia Karpf in the 1975 film Shampoo. Lee Grant was also nominated for Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her role as Mrs. Enders in the 1970 movie The Landlord and Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her role as Lilian Rosen in the 1976 movie Voyage of the Damned .
