John was born under the official name Perkins, John on September 11th, 1959. He has been a credited actor since the 1995 film Night of the Scarecrow.

John Hawkes is a dependable leading actor. He has starred in three films including the 2012 comedy film The Sessions as the character Mark, the 2009 drama movie Earthwork playing Stan Herd and the 2005 comedy release Me and You and Everyone We Know cast as Richard Swersey.

John has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in twelve films including: the 2013 comedy film Life of Crime as the character Louis Gara, the 2012 biography movie Lincoln playing Robert Latham and the 2011 drama release Contagion cast as Roger.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 2000 action film The Perfect Storm, which brought in $183,000,000 at the box office.

John has stayed out of the media limelight, having been and captured in more than one pictorials and featured in two magazine articles.

As an actor John Hawkes has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences on one occasion. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his role as Teardrop in the 2010 movie Winter's Bone.
