Hume was born under the official name Jr., Hume Blake Cronyn on July 18th, 1911. He died on June 15th, 2003 in Fairfield, Connecticut, USA (prostate cancer). He has been a credited actor since the 1943 film Phantom of the Opera.

Hume has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in ten films including: the 1996 drama film Marvin's Room as the character Marvin, the 1994 drama movie Camilla playing Ewald and the 1993 crime release The Pelican Brief cast as Justice Rosenberg.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 1993 crime film The Pelican Brief, which brought in $101,000,000 at the box office.

Hume has garnered moderate media attention, having been featured on the cover of at least one magazines, interviewed in over one publications and featured in five magazine articles. He has been the subject of at least two books.
