Djimon was born under the official name Hounsou, Djimon Gaston on April 24th, 1964. He has been a credited actor since the 1994 film Stargate.

To date, Djimon has only starred in the 2011 action movie Elephant White. Djimon Hounsou has yet to establish a position as a bankable star.

Djimon has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in fifteen films including: the 2014 action film Guardians of the Galaxy as the character Korath, the 2014 action movie How to Train Your Dragon 2 playing Drago and the 2013 comedy release Baggage Claim cast as Quinton.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 2014 action film Guardians of the Galaxy, which brought in $330,000,000 at the box office.

In 2011 Djimon Hounsou produced his first movie, the action film Elephant White.

As an actor Djimon Hounsou has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences on two occasions. His first nomination was for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his portrayal of Mateo in the 2003 film In America. Djimon Hounsou was also nominated for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his role as Solomon Vandy in the 2006 movie Blood Diamond .
