DeForest was born under the official name Kelley, Jackson DeForest on January 20th, 1920. He died on June 11th, 1999 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA (stomach cancer). Known to his close friends as De, he has been a credited actor since the 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

DeForest was a recognizable supporting cast member who's acting range makes him the top choice for a variety of roles. He has appeared in six films including: the 1991 action film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country as the character McCoy, the 1989 action movie Star Trek V: The Final Frontier playing McCoy and the 1986 action release Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home cast as McCoy.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 1982 action film Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, which brought in $79,000,000 at the box office.

DeForest is a fan favorite, having been featured on the cover of at least six magazines, captured in more than one pictorials, interviewed in over nine publications and featured in three magazine articles. He has been the subject of at least two books.
