Charles was born under the official name Durning, Charles Edward on February 28th, 1923. He died on December 24th, 2012 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA (natural causes). Known to his close friends as Charlie, he has been a credited actor since the 1970 film I Walk the Line.

Charles Durning was a dependable leading actor. He has starred in four films including the 2012 action film Rogue Assassin as the character Frank Maro, the 2011 comedy movie Naked Run playing Congressman Davenport and the 2010 action release The Waiter cast as Frank 'The Handler' Maro.

Charles has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in thirty-five films including: the 2013 horror film Bleeding Hearts as the character Santa Claus, the 2013 crime movie Scavenger Killers playing Dylan Frier and the 2011 thriller release The Life Zone cast as James Wise.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 1973 comedy film The Sting, which brought in $160,000,000 at the box office.
