Bob was born under the official name Balaban, Robert Elmer on August 16th, 1945. He has been a credited actor since the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Bob has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. He has appeared in seventeen films including: the 2014 drama film The Monuments Men as the character Preston Savitz, the 2012 comedy movie Moonrise Kingdom playing The Narrator and the 2007 comedy release No Reservations cast as Therapist.

His most commercially successful project to date has been the 2014 drama film The Monuments Men, which brought in $78,000,000 at the box office.

Bob Balaban has directed on numerous occassions including: Parents (1989). In 1994 Bob Balaban produced his first movie, the drama film The Last Good Time. Since then he went on to produce the drama film Gosford Park in 2001.

Bob has garnered moderate media attention, having been featured on the cover of at least one magazines, interviewed in over five publications and featured in three magazine articles.
