Barbara was born under the official name Herzstein, Barbara Lynn on February 5th, 1948. She has been a credited actor since the 1980 film The Stunt Man.

Barbara Hershey has yet to establish a position as a bankable star. She has starred in two films including the 2008 drama movie Childless as the character Natalie and the 1986 comedy film Hannah and Her Sisters playing Lee.

Barbara has made such a successful career in supporting roles, that it actually surpasses most leading actor's careers. She has appeared in sixteen films including: the 2013 horror film Insidious: Chapter 2 as the character Lorraine Lambert, the 2010 drama movie Black Swan playing The Queen and the 2010 drama release Insidious cast as Lorraine Lambert.

Her most commercially successful project to date has been the 2010 drama film Black Swan, which brought in $107,000,000 at the box office.

Barbara has garnered moderate media attention, having been , captured in more than nine pictorials, interviewed in over three publications and featured in two magazine articles.

As an actor Barbara Hershey has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences on one occasion. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her role as Madame Serena Merle in the 1996 movie The Portrait of a Lady.
