The film stars Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, Carrie Henn as Rebecca 'Newt' Jorden and Michael Biehn as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks. Aliens was produced for $19,000,000. Since it's release it has grossed over $78,000,000 in ticket sales and $44,000,000 in rental and home sales.

Aliens was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences in six categories. It won the Oscar for sound effects editing and visual effects. It was also an Oscar nominee for art direction, film editing, music (original score) and sound.
